We got the 0835 from Birmingham Airport to Glasgow and arrived in the city centre around 1000 hrs, which mean't we had time to burn. To be fair I had already visited Celtic's ground for the fixture the previous November with England but felt I needed to take a closer look.

Brother Walfrid founded Celtic Football Club for the purpose of alleviating poverty in Glasgow's East End by raising money for the charity, 'The Poor Children's Dinner Table". This was an initiative that he took from Hibernian of Edinburgh who were formed out of the Irish immigrant population a few years earlier.
Jock Stein managed Celtic from 1965-78 and won 9 straight Scottish league titles from 1966-74. In 1967 he led the team to the Scottish league, Scottish Cup, Scottish league Cup and the European Cup. In the latter they defeated Inter Milan at the Estadio Nacional in Lisbon and became the first British club to lift the trophy.
Amazingly all of the players that played in the victorious European Cup Final were Scottish and were born within 30 miles of Parkhead; a feat never achieved by any other, before or after. The team earned the named the 'Lions of Lisbon'.
Jimmy Johnstone was voted Celtic's best ever player by the fans in 2002. He scored 129 goals in 515 appearances. He was famous for an incident in 1974 where he took out a rowing boat following a drinking session with his Scottish team members in Largs in Ayrshire, the boat became adrift and he had to be rescued by the Coast Guard. Despite this embarrassing incident 3 days later he put in a blinding performance against England, seeing Scotland home to a 2:0 win at Hamden Park.
