Germany U21 v England U21
UEFA Euro Under 21 Championships 2025
Final
National Football Stadium
Bratislava, Slovakia
28 Jun 25
After leaving the Tartra Mountains from our hotel in Tatranska Lomnica we took the 5 hour train journey to the capital city in Bratislava. The journey consisted of a short journey (via Stary Smokovec) to Poprad Tatry on the mountain electric train, to catch the main line train that runs from Kosice to Bratislava
The locations
Tickets were available online via the UEFA U21 website. I purchased our 20 Eu tickets before the draw and was hedging my bets that we would make the final. How correct I was. This time both Sue and I had good seats in D105 and even managed to get the flag up behind the goal
The National Stadium (Národný Futbalový štadión) is also referred to by the traditional name of Slovan Bratislava's former ground (Tehelné pole stadium), which translates to Brick Fields because the land used to be the site of a brick yard. During the new construction the concrete from the old stadium was used in the foundations for the new development which opened its doors in 2019. It has a capacity of 22,500 which was slightly reduced for the U21 Euro tournament
Attendance: 19,153
After starting our journey from Tatranska Lomnica, we eventually arrived at Bratislava at 1433
In no time, a Bolt took us to our hotel in the old town,

Pre match meal in the brilliant '1. Slovak Pub', one of
the best pubs in Bratislava's old town
The pub has 11 themed rooms on two floors and even has its own brewery and farm. The ribs were excellent
Next door is the KGB pub which stands for
Krčma Gurmánov Braislavy (Bratislava Gourmet Pub)
but has a USSR theme going on in the cellar
Vashe Zdorov'ye
The Soviet Union Cellar Bar
Next we meet the team in the Bratislavska Kozlovna
which has the excellent Kozel on draft
Enroute to the ground Bish spots some
folk drinking beer, so we alite the tram
Hidden behind some shops is the 'FoosBar',
where two very serious games of chess are about to commence
Lamby is getting thrashed by the Slovakian Grand Master
I put up a good defence but succumb to a classic move,
the famous 'Queen's Gambit'

Flags flying high in the warm Bratislava evening
She's off again 💃
England take a 2 goal lead with goals from Harvey Elliot and Omari Hutchinson but on the stroke of HT Nelson Weiper of Mains 05 rose like a salmon and it's 2:1
Weiper's headed goal with the Grantham Rams in full view. The Germans were to score again in the 61' when Paul Nebel struck a fine shot through a crowd of English defenders. Then as extra time loomed, Johnathon Rowe ghosted into the 6 yard area and converted a superb stooping header passed Atubolu to win the Final in the 92nd minute
The final attendance was close to capacity
