Getafe v Cordoba CF
Coliseum Alfonoso Perez
Getafe, Spain
7 May 2017
Tickets were available on the day from the ticket office at the stadium. Getafe are currently riding high in La Liga 2 (3rd Place) so we expect a good crowd for this one.
Getafe CF 2 Cordoba CF 0
Attendance: 10,655
Two great goals by Getafe settled this encounter. The first came in the 28th minute when Faurlin struck a sweet free kick that tucked into the top right hand corner of the net. In the second half Cordoba had been denied on the line when an Alfaro strike had the keeper well beaten. Getafe then took home all of the points following a 71st minute right foot curler from Chuli which nestled into the top left hand corner.
The stadium is called the Coliseum Alfonso Perez and is right in front of you as you get out of the metro at Los Espartales
Today we are Getafe
Leaving the apartment for the start of Match Day 2 I bump into the biggest Sunday Flea market that I have seen for a very long time
Street artists on every corner, lots of colour and loads of food
At one end of the market is the statue of Ely Gonzalo, a local Spanish war hero who was
decorated following his brave actions during the Cuban campaign in Cascorro in 1896

Heading towards the centre of town we pass Hostal La Macarena just next to Plaza Mayor and at €70 per night it is a bargain.

Then we hop on the red line to La Ventas to see the most famous Bullring in Spain. Situated in the East of the City in the district of Salamanca it has a capacity of 25,000
Antonio Bienvenida is the Torero
that fought the most in Madrid
This statue is dedicated to the baby faced Jose Cubero Sanchez "El Yiyo", who for 30 years was the last matador to be killed by a Bull in Spain, when in 1985 he met his death. This mantle has since been taken on by Victor Barrio who met the same fate in 2016
Wall Statue in the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas
The San Isidro Bullfighting Festival is one of the most important bullfighting events in Spain, sadly we missed it by days
We take the MetroSur (Line 12) to Getafe and get off at Los Espartales, 3 stops before Getafe Central
First beer in Getafe at La Trasiego, the food looked great but we had just missed out as they had stopped serving.
Time to secure the tickets and at €20 pay on the day,
you just can't complain

At Bar El Azulon (The Blues Bar) we bump into a few fellow Ground Hoppers from England (A pair of Bristols and a Scouser ). We had a good beer and marvelled at the cheap prices within the Madrid suburbs.

The 'Azulon' win the game 2-0 quite convincingly against an under par Cordoba side who lacked quality
Getting the Metro to Getafe central to have a look around the town and get the fast train connection back to Madrid Atocha on the 'Cercanias' suburban train which only takes 20 minutes as opposed to an hour on the metro.
La Cibelina Fountain in Getafe is the traditional place where all Getafe supporters come to celebrate their football triumphs. It doesn't happen too often, but when it does....
Beer stop at the London Cafe, Getafe
