Spartak Moscow v FC Ural Yekaterinburg, Moscow

Premier League Russia
Spartak Moscow v FC Ural Yekaterinburg
Spartak Stadium
Moscow, Russia
4 Nov 2018

Tickets for the Russian Premier League are not difficult to come by as matches seldom sell out. Spartak have a very user friendly website and internet sales are the way ahead. Just bring your proof of purchase which has a barcode on to and exchange it for the real thing pictured above.

The last time I was here was with Sue for the World Cup Round of 16 match between England and Colombia in July. This was a much cooler affair, with temperatures around - 5 C.

Spartak Stadium is officially known as the Otkritie Arena after the sponsor Otkritie Holding. This will be the name of the stadium until 2019. The stadium opened in 2014 at a cost of 200 million Euros and has a capacity of 45,360.

1 Spartak Moscow v FC Urals Yekaterinburg 2

The game comes to life inside the Spartak Stadium when FC Ural's Dimitrov curls in a wonderful free kick from the edge of the penalty area in the 29th minute to beat the keeper to his left. FC Ural begin to dominate the football and Spartak are looking out of sorts for the remainder of the 1st Half.

In the 2nd Half Spartak start showing some bottle and deservedly equalise through Adriano's close range strike on 74 minutes. Straight after the restart FC Ural regain the lead when the Spartak keeper can only parry a powerful header into the on rushing Panykov who heads into an empty net.

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour; the original was built to commemorate the victory over Napoleon's Grand Armee. It was completed in 1883, then the tallest building in Moscow. It was destroyed on Stalin's orders in 1933 to make way for the 'Palace of Soviets' that was never built. The site became an outdoor swimming pool in 1959. The Cathedral was re-built in the late 1990's.
