Boavista v CD Aves
Estádio do Bessa, Porto, Portugal
11 August 2019
Boavista is Porto's second club and they play in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Having won 9 domestic trophies including one championship in 2000-01, the Panthers are the most decorated Portuguese club outside of the big three of Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Porto. Tickets were in plentiful supply. We got there a few hours before kick off and secured a nice place behind the goal....with the ultras of CD Alves 💀😎
Boavista 2 CD Aves 1
Attendance: 6010
The Estadio do Bessa is located in the West of Porto and is built like a traditional English stadium with a steep rake on all four sides of an enclosed ground. The Stadium was constructed in 2003, just in time for the 2004 European Championships where it hosted three 1st Rd Group games:
Greece v Spain (1:1)
Latvia v Germany (0:0)
Denmark v Sweden (2:2)
It has also hosted 3 games for the national team:
Portugal v Azerbaijan 2006 (3:0)
Portugal v Gibraltar 2016 (5:0)
Portugal v Faroe Islands 2017 (5:1)
Our digs were ideally located in the historic centre of
Ribeira on the Rua dos Mercadores.

it was a very good night 😂
Sobering walk up hill to the Cathedral
The Cathedral of Porto on the high ground and is in the
same square where criminals were hanged

After a short walk down the Avenue Da Boavista
we arrive at the stadium to bag the tickets
We both loved the Panther
'As Panteras' - 'The Panthers'

Great monument
Is there any escape from Super Bock
Finally, we find a cafe selling
beer that is not Super Bock
Sagres - my new friend
Sagres really does exist
We casually walk passed the home end as we have tickets with CD Aves (how did that happen)
The crowds milling around the Panthers
Portuguese football is a family affair
The club shop is a temporary cabin until the new one opens
High Heels at footie🙈
Now we need to start learning some chants
"We are CD Aves"
In front is the South Stand and the Boavista Ultras

The leader of the CD Aves ultra group
Sue is right into this
Just making sure that everyone is singing
We are CD Aves 😂
We equalise against Boavista in the 41st minute with a
strike from Mehrdad Mohammadi
It all goes quite on 76 mins when
Boavista are awarded a soft penalty

Up steps Yusopha Njie to make it 2:1
Very impressed with the support shown
