Slovenia U21 v England U21
UEFA Euro Under 21 Championships 2025
Group B, Match 2
Štadión pod Zoborom
Nitra, Slovakia
15 Jun 25
After leaving Trenčín we headed south on the ZSSK train for 95 Km to Nitra. In Nitra I planned to see the remaining Group games involving England (15 Jun v Slovenia and 18 Jun v Germany) but my plan was to unravel
Location of the venues
Tickets were available online via the UEFA U21 website. After purchasing a cheap seat at 12Eu, I learned that Millwall Des had invited us all 8 of us to hospitality at 149Eu a pop, and the view wasn't bad either

Attendance: 5217
Štadión pod Zoborom is now a multi sports stadium where it hosts FC Nita and since 2023, the American football team Nitra Knights. It has a capacity of 7480. The stadium was renovated at a cost of Eu7.9 million between 2016-18
The stadium has hosted two Slovak internationals:
27 Mar 1996 v Belarus (4:0 win)
24 May 2000 v Saudi Arabia (1:1 draw)

The hosts and hostesses were fabulous
0:0 and not the greatest game of football but credit must be given to the Slovenian defence
After more stalking of the Liverpool players, Lamby returns with a signed shirt of the U21 Captain 'Quansah' after a visit to the England changing rooms!
The Lambster is quite impressed with himself
Hospo again Ole, Ole!
7 go to Hospo
On the long walk back to our digs we pass a few sites
HK Nitra is the Ice Hockey Club who play at the Nitra Arena next door to the football stadium
Day 2: Culture tour around Nitra
The Ponitria Museum on the man square is the historical, archaeological, natural science and cultural epicentre of Nitra. Sadly we did not pay a visit as we were enroute to the castle
Štefánikova trieda (Stephen's Avenue)
Pribinov meč (Pribin's Sword). Pribin was the first Slavic ruler to build a Christian Church in the Slavic territory of Nitra
The Cornet Fountain on Štefánikova trieda
Enroute we pass St Cyril and St Methodius

It is Monday and the Bell Tower is closed to visitors

Nitra Castle is the oldest in Slovakia having been built in the 11th century but prior to that there were fortifications located on the hill from the Bronze Age (1600 BC)
The Church of St Emeram (11-12th Century) is the oldest part of the Cathedral
The view of Štadión pod Zoborom from the castle
There is a nice little terrace and they serve a good pint of
beer. Unfortunately I was feeling a bit rubbish
As the day progressed I had to go back to the room as I had suspected food poisoning and the dreaded D&V that goes with it. This prompted me to leave 2 days early and consequently miss the Germany v England game but I will be back!
All the matches played in Nitra
